Step Out of the Boat Conference
Our week in Ohio was amazing! The three-day Step Out of the Boat conference was a wonder to Grace and me. It was such a blessing to be among people such as these.
Jesus said, sell everything and follow me. My Amish brothers and sisters did exactly that. There is something very special about those who willingly pay a terrible price to know the Lord. They are different, somehow more seasoned in Christ. Their stories are heartbreaking. Their faith is so much more. Despite the cost, none felt it was too high. Jesus is worth everything.
It was incredible to meet ministry leaders who share the same love and yearning for their people that I feel for my people, the Mormons. How wonderful it was to speak at the conference and preach in a Savannah, Ohio, church.
Sharing the Gospel
In addition to Step Out of the Boat, I had the most telling and troubling experience. Everyone has the right to hear the gospel’s good news, so I spoke with people as I met them on the street. I spoke with Christians, agnostics, the Amish, and one senior missionary couple from the Mormon church. The Amish, agnostics, and Christians were the kindest and most pleasant people.

I had an opportunity to speak with this man about the gospel. I liked him very much.
He knew nothing of the miracle of grace or the simplicity of the gospel. Ultimately, he gave me his home address and agreed to speak further through old fashion paper and ink letters. I hope I remember how.
God is so good!
The Mormons were another story. A bitter, arrogant rage is baked into my people, the Mormons. For me, it is so heartbreaking. So, I lift them up to God, for only He can heal their hearts.
You Just Never Know
When people come together in Christ, there is no way to know how far God will carry the echoes of salvation or in whose ears those echoes will ring.
Grace and I met Mahlon and Marie Miller at this conference. We became fast friends; we became family. One week after the Step Out of the Boat conference. Mahlon walked into a Kentucky store and noticed a man looking at him in a strange way.
Finally, the man approached and asked, “Are you, Mahlon Miller?” Mahlon answered yes, and the man continued, “Do you know Lance Earl?” This man was a former Mormon who read the Bible and came to know the Lord. He indicated that he had been following my ministry, and when he learned I would be speaking at the conference, he looked it up and listened. It is wonderfully fascinating that one more former Mormon has come into fellowship with my new former Amish family.
It is hard to imagine all that God is doing to bring us together as His children!
